So What’s Next? Downtown presents: Sons of Kemet

Locatie: Gaslab

Everything that makes present day British Jazz so exciting comes together in the catchy, danceable music of Sons of Kemet.

The band has a special line up with two drummers, a reed player and a tuba. Bandleader is saxophonist and clarinettist Shabaka Hutchings, (formerly) known from the Heliocentrics and voted BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist. Furthermore Seb Rochford (Polar Bear, Brian Eno) and Tom Skinner (Mulatu Astatke) on drums and Theon Cross on tuba.

Their trademark is their powerful mix of different styles: Jazz, Caribbean music, African rhythms, touches of brass band music from New Orleans, Arabic scales and Albert Ayler-like cry-out solos are all jumbled up.

We warn you: get ready to be blown away

This concert is organized together with the renowned Jazzfestival So What’s Next? Already four years in a row So What’s Next? in Muziekcentrum Eindhoven has been sold out. With a strict emphasis on the up and coming stars of the world of jazz and beyond the festival is rocking and jazzing like crazy. Would you like some proof? Here’s a list of the artists of the last three years: Jett Rebel, Jamie Woon, Kamasi Washington, Hiatus Kaiyote, Gallowstreet, Christian Scott, Jono McCleery, Ibrahim Maalouf, Typhoon, Robert Glasper, Taylor McFerrin, Gregory Porter, José James, Jameszoo, Aaron Parks, Joshua Redman, Tigran Hamasyan, and Snarky Puppy.
