La región salvaje

Location: Filmhuis De Zwarte Doos

Amat Escalante, Mexico 2016
language: spanish – subtitles: dutch

Alejandra is trapped in a troubled marriage with macho man Angel. Through her brother Fabian she meets the mysterious Veronica. She introduces both brother and sister to their deepest desires. The consequences of this discovery turn Alejandra’s life upside down.

Veronica brings them to a mystical presence in the woods. It turns out to be a source of both pleasure and self-destruction. La región salvaje is absolutely unique and unpredictable. Eroticism, social drama, science fiction, and horror are all mixed up. It holds up a mirror, not only to the chauvinistic Mexican society, but to our own subconscious desires too. For his previous film Heli, director Amat Escalante won Best Director at Cannes film festival and for La región salvaje he won Best Director at the Venice film festival.

We would recommend you not to read anything about this film and just to go and see it, but if you want to read more click here.
