Alejandra is trapped in a troubled marriage with macho man Angel. Through her brother Fabian she meets the mysterious Veronica. She introduces both brother and sister to their deepest desires. The consequences of this discovery turn Alejandra’s life upside down.

Veronica brings them to a mystical presence in the woods. It turns out to be a source of both pleasure and self-destruction. La región salvaje is absolutely unique and unpredictable. Eroticism, social drama, science fiction, and horror are all mixed up. It holds up a mirror, not only to the chauvinistic Mexican society, but to our own subconscious desires too. For his previous film Heli, director Amat Escalante won Best Director at Cannes film festival and for La región salvaje he won Best Director at the Venice film festival.
